Kids in Sports
It is important to treat children and young adolescents who suffer from injuries related to the high demands of competitive sports or recreational sporting activities as quickly as possible. Identifying and resolving the cause of symptoms and complaints while ensuring they understand how to prevent further injury will ensure their growing bodies are protected.
A young athlete’s continued participation in sports and fitness can be enhanced with advice on an appropriate fitness program through our kinesiologists as they continue with their teams. For example, the prevention of patello-femoral knee pain so commonly seen in the growing athlete can be addressed with a simple home exercise program. Children with recurring ankle sprains can be provided with simple and fun stretching, strengthening and balance training exercises for home.
At Physio Sports Care Centre, we are dedicated to clear and timely communication, early recognition of problems, effective treatment, and collaboration with your child’s physician or health care provider—so he or she can safely return to keeping fit and having fun!
Senior Athlete
Did you know that one in three seniors falls every year, and half of those who fall will do so repeatedly? Fall prevention and individualized exercise programs can help senior athletes prevent falls or recover from injuries related to falls.
As a person ages, it is important to remain mobile and strong while maintaining good balance if falls are to be avoided in ever-changing environments. A Physio Sports Care Centre exercise program can help you stay agile and reduce the likelihood of a fall.
If you are an active senior athlete, a physiotherapy evaluation will assist in the identification of any physical problems that may be slowing your progress in your exercise program. We will create an individualized program that will adjust to your abilities and help to prevent further injury.
Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Fitness Session
For both athletes and the general population alike, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a powerful tool in assessing functional movement patterns. By conducting various movement and positional tests, we will identify movement pattern dysfunctions that negatively affect performance, cause pain and present a risk for injuries.
Once any movement pattern dysfunctions have been identified, we will develop a corrective strategy from a manual therapy and exercise standpoint in order to improve function. To get you started in the right direction, FMS will be offered in combination with a recommended fitness program.
